Every January, millions of us make New Year’s resolutions to lose weight and get fit. Most of those resolutions are already history by Valentine’s Day. If you’re one of the many who are having trouble staying motivated to keep up your fitness routine, here are a few ways to pump up your enthusiasm.
Think like an athlete
Instead of looking at exercise as a chore, think of it as a method of reaching your goals. Maybe you won’t win any gold medals, but sticking to your fitness regime can help you to achieve other goals, like losing weight, getting stronger and feeling better. When you’re tempted to skip an exercise class, remind yourself that you have to keep moving forward if your expect to win!
Set realistic goals
Not matter how much you may want to lose 50 pounds in time to wear a bikini in time for Memorial Day, it just isn’t going to happen. Starving yourself will only land you in the hospital, not turn you into a beach bunny overnight. Instead, set small, realistic fitness goals and mark you milestones as you reach them. Looking back at how much you’ve accomplished can keep you motivated when you’re tempted to slack off.
Schedule a regular time for workouts
It’s easier to stick to your fitness routine when you make it a part of your daily schedule. Don’t say you’ll fit in a class or workout when you have time, because something else will always come up. Pick a time of day that works for you and stick with it. That hour or so per day is your time to do something good for yourself, so stick with it.
